A Dan-Wood Double Whammy

An avid watcher of property programmes, Jill Wilson had always thought she’d like to try turn-key self-build. She knew she wanted a light and bright home, which would also accommodate her other interests, but didn’t want to be faced with spiralling costs and timelines.

“I like to keep fit and wanted to have gym equipment in the house, and I also wanted space for various hobbies. When I saw the Dan-Wood brochure there were so many house styles to choose from that I just went through them until I found something that would suit me.”

But Jill didn’t just build one Dan-Wood house in Suffolk – she built two. Her elderly mother was living on the Sussex coast and, as her health was deteriorating, it was impractical for Jill to look after her. So Jill decided to move her closer and build her a bungalow.

“My house is quite a large, two-storey Dan-Wood Park 139E, but I was also lucky enough to be able to build a Dan-Wood bungalow for mum on the same plot. This means that she’s able to live reasonably independently, while I’m right next door. She watched the house being constructed from my bedroom window and was thrilled to see it materialise in front of her eyes.”
