High Performance Family Home in Bedfordshire

Tammy & Neil Giddings built a brand new, Kingspan high performance family home in Bedfordshire.

Tammy & Neil finally had the opportunity of utilising a plot of land in Tammy’s parents’ garden.  The couple wanted to build a family home with excellent U values and plenty of renewable technologies and they met Kingspan staff and were introduced to the full range of efficient building systems and products available from Kingspan Timber Solutions (KTS).

With the plans for their new home already drawn by a local architect, Tammy and Neil thought they had a firm idea of what they wanted, but after discussions with the KTS team, their idea of traditional ‘self-build’ was turned on its head.

After visiting the company’s Self Build Show Centre in St Neots and seeing The Elsworth, a contemporary style show home built to Passivhaus standards, the couple were sold on the idea of using KTS to produce their frame.

Following discussions with the team, Tammy and Neil settled on building their new home with a Kingspan ULTIMA structure, chosen for its superior thermal performance and airtightness, complemented by a Kingspan TEK Prefabricated Structural Insulated Panel roof.

After deciding to go ahead with KTS, Tammy and Neil took advantage of the Space Test offer to see just how much extra valuable space they would gain by using a Kingspan build system. Their results was an impressive 8.81m².

“It was important to us to use local companies and keep transportation down to a minimum. Kingspan being local, together with their vast knowledge of implementing eco-efficiency in self-build homes and their total understanding of what we wanted to achieve, made up our minds that KTS would be our chosen supplier,” says Tammy.
