This project is of particular interest for its position between a Grade II* listed building and a Grade I listed church. These historic surroundings were the backdrop for a barn conversion which sought to create much needed space for the client’s young family.
lapd approached the design with two prominent guiding principles: to preserve as much historic fabric and character as possible whilst creating a practical and useable space in which a family could thrive on a day to day basis.
Exposed oak beams retain the character of the existing building, whilst the conversion itself created a flowing and practical family orientated interior space.
The original barn door openings were sensitively refashioned for domestic use: patio doors flood the ground floor with natural light and allow for a constant reminder of the unique and picturesque surroundings.
