Randell Design Group created a sustainable and stylish family home near Chichester Harbour, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was important the stylish home would fit in with the local landscape and a carefully refined palette of natural materials, combined with modern detailing and sharp clean lines, was favoured.
The timber frame construction was reminiscent of the traditional farmsteads in the area, and Russwood Scotlarch cladding was chosen to complement the natural stone gable ends and zinc roof. The architects used mixed cladding widths to create a rich texture, and open joists were added to line up with the window reveals.
The client appreciated the rustic character of the timber, which will gently silver in the years ahead. The Scotlarch cladding was factory coated in SiOO:X Original to achieve a consistently weathered appearance. The home was built with sustainability at the core, with solar panels, underfloor heating, electric car charging, sedum roof, and bat and swift boxes. The timber and stone were sourced in the UK.
The architect said “Russwood provided an excellent technical service, from product selection to recommendation of installation and specification. Russwood is easy to deal with, and a great partner to work with throughout the process.”
