Matt and Sarah Switzer had long hoped to self build and they decided to pursue the idea after outgrowing their previous home. After securing their plot, the couple turned to Welsh Oak Frame to design and build their oak frame home. They decided to adapt one of Welsh Oak Frame’s previous designs, WOF 1, making small tweaks to the porch and creating a vaulted entrance hall.To save on costs Matt took on the project management. “The team at Welsh Oak Frame were always at the end of the phone and had plenty of time and patience for my questions” he says.

Three years later Matt and Sarah went back to Welsh Oak Frame to design and build an extension, creating a fourth bedroom and larger master bedroom. “Welsh Oak did a great job of making sure the addition didn’t look like an add-on but part of the original house design” says Matt. “After all the years of wanting to build in oak, we’re both delighted with our home, which has given us so much character that bricks and mortar just can’t beat.”
