This week I had the opportunity to visit French conceptual architect and interior designer Guillaume Alan in his Mayfair studio.
It was here that I learned first-hand how he developed the clean and sophisticated designs you’ll find below.
At first glance Guillaume seems to take notes from the Japanese way of life. But as he went on to talk me through his thought process, it became apparent that his work is merely inspired by the simple need to create a calm internal retreat, clearly separated from the external hustle and bustle.
Here’s a selection of stylish designs from the studio:
1: A cleverly integrated fireplace enhances the tranquil mood this bedroom space evokes.
2: Painted wooden bed base hand-brushed to reveal the intricate veins and grains. The combined headboard and lamps fuse the ensemble together seamlessly.
3: Subtle patterns have been etched into the hand-brushed wooden legs and arms of this Louis XVI inspired dining chair and soft leather wide chairs – perfect for a small reading nook/library or study.
4: One of my favourite pieces was a tall wooden hand-brushed screen/divider, again inspired by the Louis XVI era, when ladies would change behind a screen. Guillaume’s contemporary twist has been achieved by employing thicker wood and larger dimensions. It’s also available in white.
