Going underground

3 December 2012

We are in the process of designing and budgeting for our proposed bungalow and are thinking of putting in a basement, which would run below the whole area of the build. How much would this cost?

Answers

Assuming the basement is 2.5m deep and the ground is normal clay, it should cost an extra £30,000 to £35,000 to build. This cost includes a concrete base, one-and-half thick brick walls, waterproofing, a staircase and the electric work. It excludes any of the finishings, internal walls, decorations and drainage.
