After living in cold, draughty houses, Trevor and Judith Gospel wanted nothing more than an energy efficient and sustainable home from which to run their organic farm.
With the help of Mark Siddall of LEAP they have built the first bespoke cavity wall Passivhaus in north east England. The simple two-storey design is a contemporary twist on the vernacular style of the area, with large windows arranged to maximise solar gain.
Steel farm received official Passivhaus certification in February 2015 and has since won a Passivhaus Trust award.
The Gospels couldn’t be happier with their new home. “There’s nothing at all that we’d change about the house because we got exactly what we wanted: a super-efficient property.”
